This session will follow the trends of anime and related markets based on the Anime Industry Report.
Mr. Hiromichi Masuda, the editorial director of the Anime Industry Report, will join us to explain the current state of the Japanese anime industry and its future prospects, including the businesses development in Japan and abroad, overseas expansion and the possibility of international co-productions.

Hiromichi Masuda [Anime Industry Researcher Advisor, Video Market Corporation]

Profile: After graduating from Hosei University in 1979, Hiromichi Masuda joined the then Kitty Records. Later, through Bronze Publishing, he became the president of Madhouse. After leaving in 2006, he joined Video Market Corporation where he has been a director ever since. He has experienced a wide range of content businesses, including music, publishing, and animation. His publications include "Anime Business ga Wakaru" (Understanding of the Anime Business) and “Digital ga Kaeru Anime Business” (The Digital Reshaping Anime Business) by NTT Publishing, as well as “Anime Business Kanzen Guide” (The Complete Guide to the Anime Business) by Seikaisha, and “Animation Yougo Jiten” (Dictionary of Animation Terms) by Rittorsha.

Tadashi Sudo [Journalist/ Appointed professor, Japan University of Economics Graduate School,Entertainment Business Institute]

Profile: Tadashi Sudo is a journalist who was born in Mexico and raised in Yokohama. He has been involved in news and research on the visual business with a focus on animation. After working for a brokerage firm, he established the information website "Anime! Anime!" in 2004. In 2009, he launched and served as editor-in-chief of the anime business information website "Anime! Anime! Biz". In 2016, he left “Anime! Anime!” to become freelancer. Major publications: "Who Makes the Future of Anime Business? A Quiet Revolution Caused by Chinese Capital and Internet Distribution" , “How did Japanese animation directors break into the world?” by Seikaisha.

Character merchandising plays a major role in creating a connection between the work and the viewer. Especially so for long-term series. “Attack on titan" anime series is now celebrating its 10th anniversary and reaching its conclusion. How has merchandising supported the work throughout its history? We will hear about its surprising strategy.

Profile: Joined the company in 2007. In addition to “Attack on Kyoji“ he supervised anime production for "FAIRY TAIL," "That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime," "Cells at Work!," and "Flying Witch”. Currently, although still involved in animation production, his main job is to expand the commercialization and advertising of anime and manga both domestically and internationally.

Ryota Fujitsu [Anime critic]

Profile: Ryota Fujitsu was born in Shizuoka in 1968. He began writing about anime in 2000. His major publications include "Bokura ga Anime wo Miru Riyuu -- 2010s Anime Jihyo" (Why We Watch Anime -- 2010s Anime Review) published by Film Art, Inc., and "Anime to Senso" (Anime and War) published by Nippon Hyoron sha co.,Ltd. Also works as a part-time instructor at Tokyo Polytechnic University animation school.

Prospects for simultaneous development of game and anime titles in the ”SYNDUALITY” Project.

“SYNDUALITY" is a new project by the BANDAI NAMCO Group launching this year. Game producer Futami and anime producer Matsuda will take the stage to review recent efforts to link games and anime from both industries perspectives, and to discuss how this project came to be planned from both the production and business point of view.

Profile: Joined a game production company as a new graduate in 2006. He joined the BANDAI NAMCO Group following the company's absorption and merger. Specializing in game adaptations of anime based on light novels, he was in charge of game adaptations of "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya", "Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii wake ga Nai", "Sword Art Online", and others. He has also been involved in the anime production committee and has been a producer since the first game in the series, "SAO: Infinity Moment", and has overseen the entire "SAO" game series as general producer since "Fatal Bullet". He has experience in developing IP for both anime and video games.

Matsuda Hiroshi [Bandai Namco Filmworks Inc. IP Produce Department Business Divison 1 Producer]

Profile: Joined Bandai in 2007. After being transferred to Namco Bandai Games, where he was in charge of sales and development of home video games, he transferred to Bandai Visual, where he oversaw production of animations such as "Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans" and 4K remaster of "AKIRA. Currently, he is involved in the production of the application game "Takt Op. Destiny in the City of Crimson Melody", which is linked to "takt op. Destiny“ anime and is developing projects that link anime and games.
